Another dream achieved!

 We Care

07-01-2023 @ Bahay Maria

July has always been my favorite month, there is always something about this certain month that would make a great significance in my life. I have finished my favorite book on July 2020, I have experienced my first volunteering activity on July 2022, I deeply loved something on July 2015. There's just many things that happens every July. And last July 1 2023 was yet another life changing moment.

I have always dreamed being able to help the elderly in anyways I can. I am very close to my grandparents, making me feel a great connection with other lolos and lolas. Being able to start the New rotary year with helping the elderly in bahay Maria foundation is indeed a great way to start yet another meaningful Rotary year.

I remembered walking in and seeing welcoming smiles coming from them. It indeed warmed my heart and making me feel teary eyed at that special moment. My heart was touched to see them. My soul was full of undying happiness.

Honestly speaking, interacting with them was quite awkward and difficult at first. You need to know how to get grip with their personalities. As much as I wanted to talk and spend time with all of them, there are really some invisible barriers that most of them show. It is understandable that most of them feel moody, — it is a part of aging.

As all of interactors had different lolos and lolas we interacted with, I have met Lola Josie. She was the very last person that arrived at our venue, so I accommodated her and talked about life with her. I asked questions, listened to her life stories, and rants. With her, I somehow saw my grandmother (Mami), they quite have the same personality in the way they talk about life and on the way they rant about life. It just that lola Josie was a milder version of mami [hshshs].

On the last note, I want to thank the interact club for giving us opportunities like this. This organization really opened different opportunities for students like me. Opening their eyes at the young age, to see the reality that the world and society around us holds. Hopefully, we'll continue doing works like this.

For the next rotary year, let us continue giving HOPE.
